Sophia Ayesha Ansari

A radical dreamer, intuitive and devotional Sufi

Ancestrally I am second generation Indian diaspora also of French Spanish heritage, brought up in rural Wales in a home filled with spiritual Indian stories that opened my heart.  My core training is in yoga teaching & therapy, psychotherapeutic counselling , Ayurvedic counselling, lifestyle & massage therapy  and polyvagal-informed restorative psychotherapy for trauma .

I have written and presented extensively on decolonising yoga structures and believe in values rather than regulation as the true 'yogic' way to achieve accountability and practice in our profession. I am aligned with Sufi -Sakhi lineages of Yoga. I have 30 years’ experience teaching and working therapeutically with yoga and  specialised in antenatal yoga, postnatal yoga, birth preparation, baby yoga and massage in my local community (Cardiff, South Wales). I also worked with a local charity to deliver community yoga therapy to female survivors of gender violence and human trafficking. I currently offer  somatic bodywork & yoga therapy to women recovering from pelvic/womb/heart based trauma, shock, injury or loss and I run Womb Gaia trauma informed yoga therapy  trainings.
