Unity in diversity framework

Our Unity in diversity framework is our equal opportunities policy that is based on our living values and ethical framework.

We understand that as humans, we have a common origin and soul but we are also all unique and different. We recognise that because of certain characteristics and identities, people will experience hardship, suffering, lack of respect and discrimination.

At YTC, we aim to work together to respect and nurture our differences in a unity in diversity framework. This mirrors our living values and ethical framework as well as upholds the practice of pluriversality: a world where many worlds fit. To avoid division and polarisation we aim to support many truths and realities to co -exist together.

In this way, we ask members to understand and strive to

Own their shadow and acknowledge our capacity for harm which arises when we unwittingly blame and project on to the other.

Power with rather than power over which manifests as bullying or silencing someone into another stance, belief or opinion. We aim to avoid cancel culture by listening to, including and not reprimanding one other.

Create virtuous cycles of communication. We acknowledge that mistakes and misattunements are normal and will happen but we aim to repair these misunderstandings as soon as possible.

Value our relationship. We place relationships before social and political issues to cultivate the emotional will to exercise empathic solutions to challenges or conflict.

Be transparent. We aim to reveal our concerns or dilemmas and articulate our needs thereby supporting flow and ease in our dealings, meetings and circles.

Being clear about our position. We each have our own unique story, struggles, perspectives and experiences. Being real and vulnerable about our subjective lived reality, allows us to understand and help each other.
